The Iraq Study Group (ISG), alternately known as the Baker-Hamilton Commission, or simply the Baker Commission, was a ten-person (five Democrats and five Republicans) panel appointed on March 15, 2006 by the U.S. Congress.  The ISG was asked to assess the status of America's military operations in Iraq, and to draft a report containing whatever policy recommendations it deemed useful. Toward this end, ISG members interviewed a total of 171 people and visited Iraq for four days. The ISG was led by co-chairs James A. Baker III (former U.S. Secretary of State) and Lee H. Hamilton (former U.S. Congressman). The other members of the study group were: Lawrence Eagleburger, Vernon Jordan, Jr., Edwin Meese, Sandra Day O'Connor, Leon Panetta, William Perry, Charles Robb, and Alan Simpson. The ISG released its final report on December 6, 2006. The text of that report can be viewed here. An annotated list of the ISG's 79 recommendations can be viewed here.
